| About STASS |
We are a small company who specialise in producing materials for teachers and therapists who work with people who have communicaton problems. STASS Publications was started twelve years ago and is run by Susan Armstrong who is a fully qualified Speech and Language Therapist. The name STASS comes from our first publication, the South Tyneside Assessment of Syntactic Structures by Susan Armstrong and Maureen Ainley. To date we have produced over 20 titles written by Speech and Language Therapists, sometimes in collaboration with Teachers. Our materials are used by Speech & Language Therapists, Teachers, especially Special Education and Support Teachers, Hearing Impaired / deaf units, as well as Educational Psychologists all over the world.
Susan designs and edits all STASS materials using Apple Macintosh computers. Caroline Athey is the Office Manager and Christine Styman is our Finance Officer. We are assisted by several residents of Ponteland Care Community, who help to collate all the materials for the different products.
We also market the Metaphon materials devised by Liz Dean Janet Howell. The Metaphon system is widely used to diagnose suspected phonological disorders as well as to help develop a child's knowledge of sounds and organisation of sound processes. We are now the sole agent for Paget Gorman Signed Speech Materials.
We aim to provide practical and innovative materials to aid the working therapist or teacher. As far as possible we design materials which can be photocopied as required. All titles are described in our catalogue which is available FREE on request. Our catalogue is produced annually and comes out in February.
We welcome ideas for new products from anyone who has something original to publish, even if it is only at a very rudimentary stage. We are happy to give our opinion as to whether we think there is a market for a particular product - just contact Susan by telephone on 01661 822 316 or e-mail her at susan@stass.demon.co.uk.
